In simple words, you promote someone else’s product or service, and if someone buys it through your referral link, you earn a commission .
How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?
You (Affiliate) join an affiliate program.
You get a unique tracking link .
You promote the product using blogs, videos, social media, etc.
If someone clicks your link and makes a purchase, you earn a commission .
Types of Affiliate Marketing
There are three main types of affiliate marketing based on how the affiliate promotes the product:
1. Unattached Affiliate Marketing
The affiliate has no connection to the product or the audience.
Uses paid ads or generic traffic methods to promote the product.
Example: Promoting a fitness supplement on Facebook ads without being in the fitness niche.
Pros: Easy to start, no need for an audience.
Cons: Low trust, high competition.
2. Related Affiliate Marketing
The affiliate has an audience in a related niche but doesn’t personally use the product.
Promotes products that align with their content or audience.
Example: A fitness blogger promoting a protein supplement without personally using it.
Pros: Better engagement, more trust than unattached.
Cons: Less authentic than involved marketing.
3. Involved Affiliate Marketing
The affiliate personally uses and trusts the product.
Promotes products they genuinely believe in and recommend.
Example: A YouTuber reviewing a smartphone they actually own and use.
Pros: Highest trust and engagement, builds brand loyalty.
Cons: Takes time to build credibility and audience.
