It's a type of computer that can be found in an office or university network that allows everyone on the network to execute software.
It allows a client on a network to access and use a shared computer's considerable computational capacity and expensive software applications.
When efficiency and security demand that a programme remain close to the data and that the data remain in one location, application servers are utilized.
Eg. If organization needs a powerful database, we can add a server to provide this application.
Windows NT Server and Windows 2000 Server makes excellent application server.
